Lidia F. Fernandes, 85, of Fall River, wife of the late Joao I. Fernandes, passed away peacefully at Fall River Health Care on January 10, 2018 after a long illness. Born in Angola, she was a daughter of the late Antonio and Mariana (Almeida) Ferreira. She worked in the local textile industry as a machine operator for many years prior to her retirement. Lidia loved cooking, sewing, coloring, and attending Mass. She also enjoyed her daily neighborhood walks, her frequent trips to Portugal, and traveling to such places as the Bahamas and Florida. Lidia was a sweet, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished the time spent with family. She leaves: her children, Antonio J. Fernandes and his wife Maria of Fall River and Rosa Maciel and her husband Jose of New York; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; four sisters, Emilia Almeida, Joaquina Ferreira, Lourdes Ferreira, and Ilda Ferreira; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Jose Ferreira. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, January 16th, in Espírito Santo Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
