Lionel Garant, 87, of Fall River, husband of Ethel (Souza) Garant, died Saturday 9/3/11 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Fall River, son of George & Delia (Labeau) Garant, he was a firefighter with the City of Fall River for over 30 years, retiring in 1986. An Army veteran of World War II, he was awarded the Purple Heart & the Bronze Star. He was a member of the DAV Fall River chapter, the VFW of Fall River, and the Municipal Employees Association. Besides his wife of 62 years, he leaves: a son, Steven L. Garant (wife Linda) of Lakeville; a sister Olivette Ouellette of Springfield; 2 grandchildren, Lauren & Nicholas; several nieces & nephews. He was also brother of the late Rita Simoes, George & Arthur Garant. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, September 8, in Holy Rosary Church followed by his committal with military honors at Notre Dame Cemetery.
