Louis Mello, Jr., 78, of Somerset, husband of Susan (Hamel) Mello, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at the Catholic Memorial Home following a brief illness. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Louis Mello, Sr. and the late Olivia (Souza) Mello.

Prior to his retirement he worked as a forklift operator in the local textile industry for many years. A United States Army Veteran, he proudly and bravely served his Country during the Vietnam Conflict. An avid sports fan, especially of the Red Sox and the New England Patriots, he also, in his younger days, played football for Somerset High School. He was very proud to have been co-captain for Somerset and caught the winning football at the 1962 Thanksgiving game. Louis also enjoyed reading the Boston Herald, cowboy stories, and westerns. He was an active member of the Fall River Pigeon Club for many years where he made many special and life-long friendships.

Besides his loving wife of forty-three years, he leaves his sister, Janis Almeida (late husband, Kenneth) of Somerset; his niece, Kelli Bowers; and his nephew, Kenneth Almeida, Jr. He also leaves behind his cherished dog, Shakespeare.

Louis was laid to rest privately with military honors at Nathan Slade Cemetery in Somerset. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Louis's memory to: Forever Paws Animal Shelter, 300 Lynwood St., Fall River, MA 02721.
