Retired Southeastern Regional Transit Authority administrator Louis D. Pettine, 67, entered into eternal rest May 20, 2009 at Sarah Brayton Nursing Center in Fall River. He is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Susan, his son Jeffrey Pettine and his wife, Suzanne; his daughter Amy Pettine and her husband Jeff Drury; two grandchildren, Isabella Pettine and Samantha Drury. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents and sister he was preceded in death by his four year old son Michael. A community leader and volunteer, most of his life was spent helping others. He co-founded The National Reyes Syndrome Foundation. He enjoyed working with children. He was a vice president of the American Division Little League where he spent many years coaching minor league baseball. He was a coach for PAL girl's softball, a treasurer of the Tansey School PTO, and president of the Durfee Parents Advisory Group. He was instrumental in initiating and raising money for the first After Prom Party at the high school. He was also a member of the Fall River Country Club, the Fall River Elks and a past treasurer of the Westport Yacht Club. A 1966 Bryant College graduate, he received various awards in recognition for his years of service to youth, and for his dedication and years of service to bringing about change and bettering the lives of those less fortunate. He enjoyed the simple things in life. Nothing gave him greater pleasure than spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his wit, cunning sense of humor and generosity. His Funeral Mass, celebrated by Fr. George Harrison, was offered on Saturday, May 23, at Holy Name Church. Cremation followed.
