Louise T. (Staibano) Alves passed away peacefully at the Fall River Jewish Home on May 19, 2012 at the age of 89. Born in Fall River and a lifelong resident, she was a daughter of the late Vincent Staibano Sr. and the late Emma (Latessa) Staibano. She was the widow of the late Jesse Alves, and the former wife of the late John C. Gorman. Beloved mother of Elizabeth A. Gorman of Fall River, David L. Gorman of Miami, Fla., John V. Gorman of Virginia, James P. Alves of Fall River, and Mary Qatarneh of Amman, Jordan. She was the sister of Rosemary (Staibano) Ames of Miami, Fla., James L. Starr of Fall River, and the late Louis, Vincent Jr. and John Staibano all formerly of Fall River. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews.
She attended Sacred Heart School. She was employed by Firestone Rubber Co. and also worked as a retail clerk for Edgar's Department Store for 13 years. After retirement she was active at the North End Senior Center as a member and volunteer, receiving citations from the city of Fall River's Council On Aging for her volunteer work. She was also a chorus member of the Whippoorwills, singing at many nursing homes. Louise was a former member of Holy Rosary Church and its Women's Guild, and the Sons of Italy.
Besides her enjoyment of her family, she also enjoyed bingo, bus trips, holiday parties, and social functions. She had many friends at Borden Place East where she resided for 14 years as well as her friends at the North End Senior Center. She was also an avid Red Sox fan and loved to play miniature golf. The family wishes to extend their deep appreciation to the staff at the Fall River Jewish Home, especially to Cheri Stone for her dedication over the past nearly 5 years.
A private burial was held at Oak Grove Cemetery.
