Louise (Thomas) Mathias, age 96, passed away in Fall River, Massachusetts, on Saturday, June 23, 2012, following a brief illness. She was the widow of Manuel Aguiar Mathias. Born in Taunton, Massachusetts, she was a daughter of the late Manuel Thomas and the late Anna (Carvalho) Thomas. Raised in Taunton, she moved to Fall River after her marriage in 1933 and labored in the garment trade of this city as a presser. A member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, she retired early from the former Belle Mfg Co, located at 8 Plymouth Avenue. In 1957, Louise and her husband applied for a mortgage and moved to their new home in Somerset, Massachusetts. As the family grew she became increasingly devoted to the generations of grandchildren and their friends, and was affectionately known in her neighborhood as 'Voa'. She was a parishioner of St. John of God Church in Somerset. Surviving family members include her daughter, Leanor 'Lee' Mendonca of Somerset, two brothers; Lawrence Frontella and Manuel Frontella, and a sister, Frances Marks, all of California, six grandchildren; Catherine Sallar of Fall River, Jeffrey Brouillard of Westport, MA, Paul Brouillard of Somerset, Scott Brouillard of Taunton, Karen Robitaille of Berkley, MA, and Jerilyn Pittsley of Rochester, MA, thirteen great grandchildren; Paul Sallar of Providence, RI, Patrick Sallar of Fall River, Keith Brouillard of Bellingham, MA, Mitchell Brouillard of Westport, Milton Brouillard, III, of Swansea, MA, Elizabeth Perry of Valdosta, GA, Benjamin Brouillard and Ashley Brouillard, both of Somerset, Tucker Brouillard of Taunton, Jason Robitaille and Adam Robitaille, both of New Bedford, MA, Brett Robitaille of Berkley, and Dylanger Pittsley of Rochester, five great great grandchildren; Grace Sallar and Samuel Sallar, both of Providence, Cameron Brouillard of Bellingham, Jacoby Brouillard and Kyra Brouillard, both of Swansea, and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Claudette Brouillard, grandmother of the late Milton Brouillard, Jr., mother in law of the late Dennis Mendonca and Milton Brouillard, Sr., and sister of the late Joseph Frontella, Luis Frontella and Mary Toste. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, June 27, in St. John of God Church followed by her committal at St Joseph Cemetery in Taunton.
