Luis Linhares Rego, 61, of Fall River, husband of Maria De Lurdes (Lopes) Rego, passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2018.  He was the husband of the late Alexandrina (Medeiros) Rego for 26 years before her passing.  Luis was born in São Pedro Nordestinho, São Miguel and was a son of Maria Olivia (Linhares) Correia and the late Armindo Correia.  In addition to Lurdes, his wife of ten years, and his mother Olivia, he is survived by: his five children, Tanya Cabral and her husband Jeff of Fall River, Bryan Rego and his wife Leslie of East Freetown, Tercio Botelho and his wife Ashley of Swansea, Tiago Botelho and his wife Erica of Dartmouth and Anibal Botelho of Fall River; three grandchildren,  Owen Cabral, Drina Cabral and Emilyn Botelho.  He was the brother of five siblings, Maria DeSa and her husband Mario of North Dartmouth, Jose Rego and his wife Zelia of Westport, Armindo Rego and his wife Angie of Fall River, Ana Hilario and her husband Frank of Westport, and Maria Soares and her husband Ron of Berkley.

In his younger years, Luis was very passionate about playing soccer and played for the Michalense Soccer Club and the Academica Soccer Club, both of Fall River.  As time went on, he played for the St. Michael Soccer Club of New Bedford but was most revered as a coach.  He had an impact on many players during his time coaching at the Fall River Youth Soccer Association, then for a short while with the same group of players at the St. Michael Soccer Club of New Bedford.  In his most recent years, in addition to spending time with his family, he enjoyed many hobbies to pass the time.  He enjoyed working on all his vehicles; whether mechanical, electrical or auto body, he was never afraid to learn something new.  He enjoyed gardening and some carpentry as well.  But out of all his hobbies, he really enjoyed salt water fishing with his friends and family.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, August 9th, in St. Michael Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
