Obituary

Luisa M. (Carvalho) Garcia, 87, of Fall River, widow of Jose C. Garcia, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Born in Ajuda Bretanha, St. Michael, Azores, a daughter of the late Joao Pimentel Carvalho and the late Luisa (Raposo) Carvalho, she emigrated to Fall River in 1975.

Prior to her retirement, Luisa was employed for many years in the local textile industry. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, reading, and watching her Portuguese and Spanish soap operas. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Luisa especially enjoyed spending time with family.

She is survived by: six daughters, Eusebia Sousa (Laurenio) of No. Dartmouth, Evelina DaRosa (Manuel) of Fall River, Marilia Furtado (Edward Lake) of Fall River, Suzette DeCastro (Estacio "Stacey") of Seekonk, Dora M. Garcia (Kelley Peters) of Johnston, RI, and Katherine Amorella (Chris) of Harrisville, RI; one sister, Maria L. Legassey of Fall River; nine grandchildren, Susanne Leandro (Dave), Andrew Gomes (Ali), Jessica Viveiros (Ryan), Tanya Vandenburgh (Nick), Eric Furtado, Gil Medeiros, Megan Medeiros, Jared Sousa, and Chase Amorella; eight great grandchildren, Kayla (Dave Eunis), Madison, Seth, Logan, Gracie, Zack, Benjamin, and Oliver; and several nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, November 27th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by her committal at at Notre Dame Cemetery.
