Obituary

Madeline (Silva) Murphy, 96, of Canton, MA passed away on March 5, 2022, reuniting with Leo C. Murphy, Jr., with whom she shared 59 years of marriage. Born in Fall River, MA, she was the daughter of the late Anthony T. & Mary L. (Benevides) Silva. She was the devoted and loving mother of the late Leo C. III & his late wife Marianita, formerly of Warwick, RI, the late Kevin I. & his wife Martha of Narragansett, RI, Bradford J. & his wife Rose, of Plain City, OH, Karen D., of Canton, MA and Justin I. C. & his wife Jennifer Dahmus, of Menlo Park, CA. Madeline was the loving grandmother of Melissa, Patrick, Maddie, Justina, Anthony, Dylan, Teagan, Lisa Lewis, Charli Ward, Irene Moore and six great-grandchildren. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, and many cousins. She is preceded in death by her brother, the Honorable Milton R. Silva, formerly of Swansea, MA.

Madeline was a graduate of Durfee High School, Fall River, MA class of 1943. She entered Jackson College at Tufts University, graduating in three years with a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry. She then enrolled at the School of Medicine at Tufts and completed one year before ceasing her studies to focus on the love of her life, Leo, and starting a family. Their life together involved many friends, extended family, and adventures across the United States and Europe where she initially worked as an X-ray technician, and later volunteered on causes dear to her heart. In the late 1970s, they settled down in Wakefield and later Wickford, RI and Madeline began a prolific career as a real estate broker spanning four decades, where she made many lifelong friends, and helped many families find the right homes.

Since 2017, "Maddie" lived at The Seasons in East Greenwich, RI and more recently at Cornerstone Assisted Living in Canton, MA where she enjoyed the enrichment programs, in particular ones involving music.  Her family is very appreciative of the care provided to her at both of these residences.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, March 28th, 2022, at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fall River followed (on Tuesday) by her private committal and burial at the Island Cemetery on Block Island, RI.
