Manuel A. Batista, 80, of Fall River, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Charlton Memorial Hospital following a period of declining health. Born in Santa Barbara, St. Michael, Azores, he came to this country in 1978 and was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church.
Mr. Batista was the son of the late Manuel Batista and Lucinda Couto. His surviving family includes his wife Sofia (Faria) Batista of 49 years, his daughter Grace Biron and her husband, Joseph of Dartmouth and their two children, his brother Serafim A. Batista of St. Michael, his sister Conçeiçao (Batista) Medeiros of St. Michael, and sister Marcela (Batista) Domingos and her husband Alfred of New Bedford, and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late beloved Jorge M. Batista, and the brother of the late Joaõ A. Batista and Antonio A. Batista.
Mr. Batista was a hard-working, skilled laborer. He greatly enjoyed fishing, gardening, card games, and cherished his time with his grandchildren, Ethan and Audrey Biron.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, May 17th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
