Obituary

Manuel C. Medeiros, 94, of Fall River, husband of Angela (Medeiros) Medeiros, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 in the comforts of his home following a long illness. Born in Agua Retorta, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Gualdino Medeiros and the late Maria (Franco) Medeiros.

Prior to his retirement he was a Steam Engineer for Bristol Community College for many years. He loved fishing, gardening, cruises, the Red Sox, and traveling to such places as Canada, Washington, D.C., New York, California and back to his homeland in the Azores. He also enjoyed tending to his grapevines, making his "award-winning" wine, and woodworking, lovingly creating many special pieces from chests, to doll houses, to shelves. As a devout Catholic and faithful parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church where he served as Eucharistic Minister, was a member of the Holy Name Society, member and past president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and the proud recipient of the 2001 Marian Medal. He was a long-time member of the Don Carlos Club, and member of the Steel Workers Union of America, Retirees Union of America, and Rubber Workers of America.

Most notably, Manuel was a kind and generous" true gentleman", devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and who very much valued the time he spent with all of them.

Besides his loving wife of seventy-one years, he leaves his four children, William Guimond of Bristol, Rhode Island, Ann Marie Burns (late husband, Kevin) of Fall River, Suzan Medeiros Katasonov and her husband, George, of Montreal, Canada, and Julie Carreiro and her husband, Joseph, of Fall River; his nine grandchildren, Megan Tabicas, Jason Burns, Ian Valenta, Jesse Valenta, Ulysse Katasonov, Shalyn Pontes, Kate Carreiro, Nyla Carreiro, and Julie LaChance; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Gualdino Medeiros, Joseph F. Cabral, John Cabral, and Marciano Medeiros.

His Funeral Service was held on Monday, October 30th, in our Fall River Chapel followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery in Fall River.
