Obituary

Manuel P. Carreiro, 73, of Assonet, husband of Catarina C. (Bernardo) Carreiro, passed away at Charlton Memorial Hospital on Friday, February 17, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Agua Retorta, St. Michael, Azores, a son of the late Luis R. Carreiro and the late Maria P. (Boleiro) Carreiro, he served in the Portuguese Army for three years and emigrated to Fall River in 1973.

He was employed in the local textile industry for about 20 years, at Providence Pile / Quaker Fabric, and had earlier worked at Walkover Shoes for several years. A former soccer player and avid soccer fan, Manuel's favorite team was Porto. He was a member and past vice-president of the Young Nationals. Manuel was also a member of the Don Carlos Club and a longtime bartender at the St. Anthony's Band Club.

He enjoyed gardening, working in his yard, making wine & "cachaça," playing dominoes & cards, and spending time with family and friends. Manuel was also known to be somewhat of a math wizard.

Besides his wife, of 51 years, he is survived by: three sons, Keith Carreiro (wife Judy) of Fall River, Kenny Carreiro of Assonet, and Kevin Carreiro (wife Ashley) of Fall River; two brothers, Dorvalino Carreiro and Euclides Carreiro both of Fall River; six grandchildren, Shawn, Curtis, Jaelyn, Tyler, Janiah, and Kevin; and many nieces and nephews. He was also a brother of the late Norberto Carreiro and Nascimente Carreiro.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, February 24th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery, both in Fall River.
