Manuel H. "Cobby" Oliveira, 88, of Fall River, passed away on Saturday. Husband of Celeste (Joaquin) Oliveira, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. Born in Fall River, son of the late Manuel & Margaret (Fernandes) Oliveira, Cobby worked as a civil engineer for the MA Highway Department. A WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy, he belonged to the VFW Post 486. He was also a member of St. Michael's Club and Liberal Club. An avid golfer, Cobby enjoyed playing at Touisset Country Club. He was known for many kind and genuine qualities, but was, above all, a doting grandfather. Survivors include his daughter, Celine Rice (husband - David) of Middletown, RI; sisters, Dorothy Lay of Westport, Ruth Munroe of Macon, GA and Doreen McDonald of Akron, OH; grandchildren, Gunnar Rice and Morgan Rice; and several nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, March 11, in Espirito Santo Church followed by his committal with military honors at Notre Dame Cemetery.
