Manuel J. Hermenegildo, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at the St Anne's Hospital in Fall River, following an extended illness. He was the husband of Maria C. (Couto) Hermenegildo of Fall River. Born on the island of St. Michael in the Azores, he was a son of the late Manuel Hermenegildo and the late Silvana (Pereira) Hermenegildo. After residing in the Azores for forty-four years, he immigrated to America in 1978 and moved into an apartment across from Santo Christo Church on Columbia Street in Fall River. Manuel was employed as an assembler at Lightolier for many years until his retirement in 2000. In addition to his wife, Maria, surviving family members include a son, Joe Hermenegildo of Westport, MA, three daughters, Zelia Pacheco of Westport, Lucy Oliveira and Jennifer Viveiros, both of Fall River, a sister, Beldina Medeiros of St. Michael, Azores, a brother, Dimas Hermenegildo of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Jose Hermenegildo, and grandfather of the late Scotty Pacheco. His Funeral Mss was celebrated on Saturday, November 24, in Santo Christo Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
