Manuel M. Pereira, age 83, passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2009, at the Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, following an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Maria L. (Peixoto) Pereira. Born in the village of Maia, on the island of St Michael in the Azores, he was a son of the late Manuel Pereira Furtado and the late Maria Jose Melo. After residing in Maia for fifty four years, he retired from his family farm in 1980 and moved to Fall River. He was employed in the jewelry manufacturing trade in Rhode Island for several years after settling here. A devout catholic, Manuel loved his church and was an active member of the Espirito Santo Parish. Surviving family members include his six children, Adelino Pereira of Westport, MA, Luis Pereira of Utica, NY, Joao Pereira of Bristol, RI, Jose Pereira of Fall River, Paula Abgrab and Olivia Farinha, both of Westport. He also leaves three sisters, a brother, fourteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews. His Funeral Mass was offered at Espirito Santo Church on Wednesday, September 23. His final resting place is within the Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum, Stafford Road, Fall River. His pallbearers were Chris, Steve and Gary Pereira, Andrew and Fernando Farinha and Russell Abgrab.
