Manuel Medeiros, 87, of Somerset, formerly of Fall River, husband of the late Mary Natalie (Mateus) Medeiros, died after a long illness Monday, Dec. 24, 2007 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Fall River, raised in Mosteiros, St. Michael, Azores, son of the late Domingos & Maria (Almeida) Medeiros, he was a resident of Somerset for many years. Employed in the local area textile industry as a loom fixer until an early retirement, he was also proprietor of the former Somerset Coin Shop. An army veteran of World War II, he was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. An avid sports and Red Sox fan, he also enjoyed gardening. Survivors include: son Albert Medeiros of Somerset; daughter Mary C. Sousa of New Bedford; brother Domingos Medeiros of Dartmouth; 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Jose E. Medeiros, Diniz Medeiros & Hilda Silvia. His Funeral Mass, celebrated by Father Brian Albino, was offered on Friday (12/28) in St. Anthony of Padua Church. Committal services with full military honors followed at St Patrick Cemetery. Pallbearers were Todd Preble, Ken Arruda, Cory Wilbur, Sean Oldham, Peter Wilbur and Mark Oldham.
