Manuel O. Amaral, age 70, passed away Friday, February 12, 2010, at the Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, following a long illness. He was the husband of Adelaide (Silva Furtado) Amaral. Born in Remedios Bretanha, on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores, he was a son of the late Manuel F. Amaral and the late Helena (Oliveira) Amaral. After residing in the Azores for eleven years, he moved to Fall River in 1959, and was naturalized as a citizen of the United States. Manuel was employed in the silver processing industry of Taunton for many years at he former F. B. Rogers Silver Company and the former Rosemont Silver Co. of Dighton. Manuel was a communicant of Espirito Santo Church and a member of Our Lady of Light Society. In addition to his wife, Adelaide, surviving family members include a brother, Jack Amaral of Westport, two sisters, Marcelina Mello of Fall River, and Maria Helena Novo of Westport, and many nieces and nephews. On Thursday, February 18, 2010, friends and family gathered for a Funeral Mass in Espirito Santo Church. After the service, pallbearers Ilidio Pereira, Tony Furtado, Joao deSousa, Joey Novo, Frank Pereira, and Matt Amaral brought Manuel to his final resting place in the Notre Dame Mausoleum on Stafford Road in Fall River.
