Fall River

Obituary

Manuel Soares, 85, of Fall River, husband of Kathleen (Andrade) Soares, passed asway on Thursday April 30, 2020 at Charlton Memorial Hospital unexpectedly after a long illness. Born in Fall River, a son of the late John Soares and the late Mary (Avila) Soares, he also lived in Somerset for 30 years.

He was employed as a "cook" at Frito-Lay for many years and had also worked maintenance for about 10 years at a summer camp in New York. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, Manuel was also a member of the Fr. Boehr Council Knights of Columbus, and loved to fish.

Besides his wife, he is survived by: four children, Manuel Soares Jr (wife Michelle) of Westport, Mary Soares of Fall River, John Soares (wife Nina) of Swansea, and Linda Hadad of Fall River; a sister, Madeline Soares of Minnesota; 16 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Mary Souza, Sally Arruda, John Soares, Gert Deda, Arthur Soares, Angie Imbriglio, Edward Soares, Thomas Soares, William "Butch" Soares, Patricia Luciana, and Robert Soares; and great grandfather of the late Elijah Matthew Dator.

Due to the covid pandemic, a private funeral was held on Monday, May 4th, from our Somerset Chapel followed by his at Notre Dame Cemetery.

When the current crisis has abated enough for large gatherings to again take place, Manuel's family is planning to arrange for the offering of a Memorial Funeral Mass at St. Thomas More Church, to which extended family, friends and the public will be invited – and details will be announced here.

Family members are always grateful for relatives and friends wishing to make in-person expressions of kindness and support. Being unable to do so, because of this pandemic, all are urged to express sympathy online or by mail.

To ensure that said condolences reach the family, please always make sure that submissions online are made directly through the funeral home's website ( www.silvafaria.com ) and not through a third party. Thank you!

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Manuel's memory to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; 800-805-5856; https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html
