Obituary

Manuel R. "Solinho" Ferreira, 71, of Westport, former husband of Maria (Rego) Ferreira, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 13, 2023 at Rhode Island Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Capelas, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Luis Ferreira and the late Maria do Coracao de Jesus.

Prior to his retirement he worked as a foreman in the local construction industry for many years and was a long-time member of the Massachusetts Labor's Union #271. An avid Porto fan, he also, in his younger days, enjoyed playing soccer. He loved fishing, gardening, and traveling back to his homeland in the Azores. Manuel was considered to be a "jack-of-all trades", mastering anything and everything he tackled. But most importantly, Manny had a "Heart of Gold" and was always willing and eager to help anyone in need.

Besides his former wife, he leaves his children, Helder Ferreira and his wife, Lisa, of Taunton, Vania Miller and her husband, Brian, of East Freetown, and Kevin Ferreira of Fall River; his four grandchildren, Adriana Ferreira, Amelia Ferreira, Raegan Miller, and Lillian Ferreira; his four sisters, Fernanda Braga (late husband, Alfredo) of Fall River, Isabel Cabral and her husband, Alfredo, of Westport, Sara Silva (late husband, Joao) and Margarida Viveiros and her husband, Manuel, both of Capelas, Azores; one brother, Luis Ferreira of Westport; and many nieces and nephews including Valter Cabral with whom he shared a very special bond. He was also the brother of the late Lurdes Leite.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, March 21st, in Espirito Santo Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery, both in Fall River.
