Manuel Sousa Varão, 80, died on Thursday, December 25th, following a brief illness. Husband of Rosa (Pereira) Varao, He was born in Lagoa, São Miguel, Açores, son of the late José and Luisa (Galego) Varão. After serving as a customs agent in the Açores, he immigrated to Fall River with his family where he worked as a machine operator at Dover Stamping and Arkwright Finishing. An avid musician, he was a long-time member of the Our Lady of Light Band as a soprano saxophone player. Manny was the beloved father of Fernando J. (wife-Odilia) and Joseph M. (wife-Inez) Varao; grandfather of Sara Lindo, Marissa, Andrew, Julia, Phillip and Brent Varao; brother of Luisa Cabral, Augusto Varão and the late João, Guilherme and José Varão. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. His funeral was private.
