Obituary

Marc R. Charest, 63, of Fall River, passed away on August 18, 2008 in his home after a very courageous battle with cancer, and was surrounded by his beloved son Marc and his fiancée Bethany, his wife Barbara, and his two furkids, Jammer and Alistar who gave him great comfort and devotion and brought smiles and laughter during this unbearable time. Also with him were his lifelong treasured friends, Ann & Jimmy Donovan and Al Caron. Marc was the husband of Barbara J. (Fernandes) Charest, with whom he shared 35 years of marriage. Born in Fall River and a lifelong resident, he was a son of the late Jeannette & Romeo J. Charest, and son-in-law of the late Manuel "Bob" & Alice Fernandes. He was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Class of 1962. Marc was a Massachusetts State Police Officer, retiring after 25 years with the Commonwealth. He served in the National Guard and was the owner of Tuff Stuff Specialties and Tuff Stuff Motor Cars, which he operated for over 22 years. He was also a former Assistant Harbormaster for the City of Fall River, served as a Scoutmaster, a Commodore and belonged to many clubs and organizations. Everyone who knew him instantly gained a dedicated and devoted friend, and no one will ever compare to the man that he was. Surviving in addition to his wife is his son, Marc R. Charest, II and his fiancé Bethany Franco, of Fall River, his two furkids, Jammer and Alistar, two sisters, Mrs. Stanley (Mariette) Paine of Westport and Mrs. Melvin (Jeanine) Michalwich of Somerset, a brother, Mr. Paul Charest, wife Judith of Somerset, several nieces and a nephew. His funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Joseph Church in Fall River. Delegations from the Westport Yatch Club and the Fall River Heritage State Park attended the service. Pallbearers Joseph Souza, Rick Sequin, Steve Bulga, Al Caron, Butch Lopriore and Manny Vail brought Marc to his final resting place at Notre Dame Cemetery.
