Fall River
Marcelina Mello, 76, of Fall River, wife of Gilbert Mello, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Bretanha, St. Michael, Azores, a daughter of the late Manuel F. Amaral and the late Helena (Oliveira) Amaral, she emigrated to Fall River in 1951.
She was employed with various companies in the local textile industry for many years, working for the longest time at the former Craig-Byron, but also at the former Shelburne Shirt and the former Fall River Knitting Mills; and she was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union ("ILGWU," now "UNITE"). Marcelina enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Besides her husband, of 58 years, she is survived by: three daughters, Linda M. DeSousa (husband Joao) of Swansea, Helena Hansen (husband James) of Fall River, and Nancy Currier (late husband Mark A Currier) of Fall River; two siblings, Mary Helen Novo of Westport, and Joaquim Amaral of Westport; seven grandchildren, Sharon Currier, Jennifer Daener, Melinda Hansen, Melanie Hansen, James Hansen, Monique Platt, and Amanda DeSousa; five great grandchildren, Quentin, Joshua, Jayden, Brooklyn, and Liam; and several nieces & nephews. Marcelina was also the mother of the late Gilbert L. Mello; and a sister of the late Manuel O. Amaral.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, May 24th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
