Obituary

Margarida R. (Almeida) Fernandes, 82, of Westport, wife of Antonio R. Fernandes, passed away at home on Saturday, September 26, 2020 after a long illness. Born in Bretanha, St. Michael, Azores, daughter of the late Joao de Almeida and the late Maria (Raposo) de Almeida, she emigrated to Fall River in 1967, and resided in Westport for the past twenty years.

She was employed in the local textile industry for many years, working alongside her husband at the former Quaker Fabric as a creel operator. She enjoyed crocheting and tending to the flowers in her garden.

Besides her husband, with whom she shared 50 years of marriage, she is survived by: a daughter, Marie "Saozinha" Soares of Westport; four siblings, Maria Vincent of Westport, Mariana Miranda of Swansea, Antonio Almeida of Fall River, and Jose Almeida of Somerset; three grandchildren, Brian Soares, Taylor Soares, and Morgan Soares; four great grandchildren, Natalia Soares, Breno Soares, Alex Soares, and Everleigh Gonzago; and many nieces and nephews. She was also a sister of the late Louisa Pina and Joao Almeida, Jr.

Relatives and Friends are invited to attend her Calling Hours to be held in Silva-Faria Funeral Home, 730 Bedford Street, Fall River, on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with strict adherence to state mandates designed to mitigate the spreading of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). All will be required to wear masks (covering both nose and mouth) and to maintain social/physical distancing while in the funeral home – with patience and understanding appreciated, in light of building occupancy limits.

Her Funeral Mas was celebrated on Wednesday, September 30th, in Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport, followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery, Fall River.
