Maria A. Dias, 87, of Fall River, wife of Joao P. Dias, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Born in Porto, Portugal, daughter of the late Antonio Sampaio and the late Maria Adelaide (Cunha) Sampaio, she moved to Brazil in 1955 and emigrated to Fall River in 1980.

She worked in the local textile industry for many years, retiring in 2002, and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (I.L.G.W.U.) now called UNITE. An excellent seamstress, she enjoyed sewing, even after retirement. Maria also enjoyed traveling, especially to Brazil and Portugal, and her daily glass of red wine; but mostly she enjoyed taking care of her family.

Besides her husband, of 60 years, she is survived by: a son, Carlos E. Dias of Fall River; a sister, Maria Idalina Alves of Portugal; and many nieces & nephews. Several siblings predeceased her.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, July 24th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
