Maria Jose Alexandre, 85, of Fall River, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at St. Anne's Hospital after an illness. She was the widow of Manuel Alexandre, to whom she was married 47 years, until his passing in 2007. Born in Ajuda Bretanha, São Miguel, Açores, a daughter of the late Jose and Laurina (Moreira) Oliveira, Maria emigrated to Fall River in 1972.
Prior to her retirement, she had worked at the former Whaling Manufacturing for 28 years. A longtime active parishioner of Espirito Santo Church, and member of its Holy Rosary Society, Maria was a devout Catholic, strong in her faith. She enjoyed sewing and embroidery, as well as cooking, baking, and caring for her family with whom she loved spending time, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was the mother of four, Joseph Alexandre (wife Anesia) and Manuel Alexandre (wife Laura) both of Westport, Helen Oliveira (husband Jacinto) and Anna P. Alexandre (companion Frank DeOliveira) both of Fall River; sister of Salome Pavao of Westport, Matilde Raposo of Fall River, Helen Pacheco of Westport, and Jose Oliveira of Fall River; grandmother of eight, Dr. Amanda Gonneville (husband Matt), Justin Alexandre (wife Jesi Crawford), Andrew Oliveira, Jenny Alexandre (companion Seaver Anderson), Alexandre Medeiros (wife Makaila), Austin Medeiros, Joseph Alexandre, and the late Jordan Oliveira. Maria was also survived by: three great grandchildren, Noah, Henri, and Mikaylee; her longtime home health aide, Maria Barbosa; and several nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, January 9th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
