Maria (Figueiredo) Almeida, 88, of Somerset, widow of Daniel De Almeida, passed away at home surrounded by family on Saturday, September 23, 2023, after a short illness. Born in Tragos, Portugal, a daughter of the late Modesto Figueiredo and the late Maria Luisa (Ribeiro) Figueiredo, she emigrated to Fall River in 1974 – residing in Somerset for the past 20 years.
She was employed in the local textile industry for over 35 years, initially with former Shelburne Shirt for a short time, then at former Woodland and former Whaling Mfg. Throughout her life she enjoyed music, gardening, and cooking, and in her later years attending the Highland Adult DayCare Center where she especially enjoyed painting.
She is survived by: six children, Nelson Almeida (wife Ana) of Somerset, Jose Almeida (wife Anabela) of Westport, Maria Greeson (late husband Henry) of Somerset, Elvira Ferreira (husband Barry) of Fall River, Jose Luis Almeida (wife Ana) of Dartmouth, and Ana Meneses (husband Rick) of Simpsonville, SC; fourteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Her siblings, Deolinda, Rosa, and Antonio, all predeceased her.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, September 27th, at St. John of God Church in Somerset followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery in Fall River.
