Obituary

Maria Lança (Pereira) Amorim, 91, of Fall River, MA, born in Santa Margarida do Sado, Ferreira do Alentejo, Portugal, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late António Pereira De Amorim and the cherished daughter of the late Evaristo Francisco Pereira and Mariana (Lança) Pereira.

Maria emigrated to Fall River in 2014, bringing with her the warmth, devotion, and kindness that defined her life. A proud homemaker and nurturing nanny, Maria was known as "everyone's grandmother." She lived her Catholic faith deeply, sharing her love and generosity with all who crossed her path. Maria treasured the simple joys of life: spending time with loved ones, singing, dancing, playing cards, knitting, and taking her daily naps. Her home was always filled with laughter and love.

She is survived by: her son, José Carlos De Amorim, and his wife, Ana, of Fall River; her three siblings, Lucia De Jesus Peteira Bombaça, José Da Lança Pereira, and António Raposo, all of Lisbon, Portugal; five grandchildren, Bruno D. Fernandes, Silvia R. Amorim, Carla P. McInerney, Luis M. Vertentes, and Ana C. Vertentes; and five great-grandchildren, Gustávo, Henrique, Mila, Olivia, and Luca. Maria also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Maria Manuela Pereira Amorim; her granddaughter, Margarida Fernandes; and her sister, Cecília Pereira.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, January 15th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
