Maria (Sousa) Arruda, 90, of Assonet, formerly of Concord St, Fall River, widow of Francisco J. Arruda, died on Feb. 17, 2008, after a short illness at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Remedios Bretanha, St. Michael, Azores, daughter of the late Jose M. & Helena (Sousa) Diogo, she emigrated to Fall River in 1969. Survivors include: children, Maria Helena Silva of Vancouver, Canada, Jose Arruda of Swansea, Frank Arruda, Alda Oliveira, Manny Arruda & Lina Espinola all of Fall River, and Odette Vieira, with whom she resided, of Assonet; siblings, Fr. Luis Diogo of Providence, Helena Mateus of E. Providence, Manuel & Francisco Diogo, Mariana Silva and Idalina Carvalho all of Canada; sister-in-law, Olivia Diogo of Fall River; 16 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was also sister of the late Joaquim & Jose Diogo. Her Funeral Mass was held in Espirito Santo Church. Her pallbearers were Alvaro and Brenten Vieira, Paul and Frank Arruda, Jason and Jeffrey Oliveira. Her committal service was held at Notre Dame Cemetery.
