Maria B.
Cabral
d. Aug 2, 2023
Maria Botelho Cabral, 78, of Fall River, widow of Jose Medeiros Cabral, passed away after a long illness on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Hathaway Manor of New Bedford. Born in St. Michael, Azores, a daughter of the late Joao R. Cabral and the late Silvana (Botelho) Cabral, she emigrated to Fall River in 1963.
She was employed as a seamstress in the local textile industry for many years, retiring in 2007, and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (I. L. G. W. U.). A devout Catholic, Maria was an active parishioner at the former Our Lady of Health Church then at St. Anthony of Padua Church. She would visit residents at the Catholic Memorial Home and used to deliver food to the former Rose Hawthorne Lathrop Home. Maria especially enjoyed spending time with and caring for her family and helping to raise extended family members.
She is survived by: two sons, John F. Cabral (wife Sandra) of Swansea and Robert C. Cabral (wife Denise) of Middleboro; two sisters, Rose Tavares and Margaret Duarte both of Fall River; two grandchildren, Kayden and Kylie; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, August 9th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery, both in Fall River. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Maria's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; 800-805-5856; https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html , or to Alzheimer's Association MA/NH Chapter, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd, Waltham, MA 02452; 800-272-3900; https://www.alz.org.
