Maria C. Borges, 92, of Fall River, wife of the late Augusto R. Borges, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 7, 2021 at Catholic Memorial Home after a long illness. Born in Rosario da Lagoa, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Antonio DaCosta Furtado and the late Maria Isabel (Freitas) Furtado.

Prior to retirement she was a high-end seamstress for a local bridal boutique for many years. Maria instilled very high morals and practical standards in all her children. But most notably, her true passion in life was her family and spending quality time with all of them, especially her grandchildren.

She leaves: her loving children, Joseph Borges and his wife, Ann, and Isabel Mallet and her husband, Andrew, both of Swansea; her five grandchildren, Lisa Sampson, Elizabeth Townson, Jason Borges, Joseph Cabral, and Jonathan Kennedy; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Luisa Cabral and sister of the late Francisco Furtado, Maria Jovina Ferreira, Jose DaCosta Furtado, Maria Leontina Costa Furtado, and Augusto Furtado.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, May 11th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church, followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery in Fall River.
