Maria C. Fernandes, 76, of Fall River, wife of Jose A. Fernandes, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 10, 2017. Born in Ponte DaBarca, Portugal, she was a daughter of the late Alberto Pereira Corga and Aurora DeSousa. For many years she was owner and operator of Terminal Bakery here in Fall River. Maria enjoyed Portuguese folk dancing, cooking, and baking, especially her famous malassadas and custom cakes. She also loved summering in Portugal and spending as much time with family as possible. Besides her husband of forty-seven years, she leaves: her three children, Maria A. Reboca and her husband Antonio, Joseph L. Fernandes and his wife Rose, of Dartmouth, and Paul G. Fernandes of Fall River; four grandchildren, Nicolas Reboca, Breanna Reboca, Brittany Fernandes, and Logan Fernandes; four sisters, Maria A. Evaristo and her husband Manuel of Canada, Aurora Corga and her husband Joaquim, Lena Evaristo and her husband Jose of Fall River, and Candida Barros (late husband-Joaquim) of New Bedford; a brother, Antonio Corga and his wife Olivia of Tiverton; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Stephen Fernandes and sister of the late Alberto Corga. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, November 16th, in Good Shepherd Parish Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
