Obituary

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Maria DoCarmo (Rego) Medeiros on Monday, July 22nd, 2024. She passed peacefully and surrounded by family. She was the wife of the late Sebastiao DeMedeiros, with whom she shared 61 years of marriage. Born in Ajuda da Bretanha, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Luis DoRego and the late Margarida (Oliveira) DoRego.

She, her husband, and their five children immigrated to Fall River, Massachusetts in 1974. Here she began working in the textile industry pressing shirt collars at Fall River Shirts. Her main passion and career in life though, was that of a homemaker. She excelled at cooking and enjoyed sharing her delicious meals with her family and friends. As a devout Catholic she spent many of her days attending Mass at her local parish, Espirito Santo. When she was unable to physically attend due to declining health, she continued to follow along with televised Mass and could always be seen with a rosary in hand. Her family fondly remembers her always telling them to "pray every day."

She is survived by her four loving children, Ilda Barbosa (the late Joao Barbosa), Gilbert Medeiros, Dimas Medeiros (Jackie Medeiros), and Messias Medeiros (Jocelyn Cote-Medeiros);  her ten grandchildren, Elizabeth Furtado (Bruce Furtado), Janice Pacheco (Jason Pacheco), Kimberly Carriero (Brian Carriero), Stephanie Pacheco (Paul Levesque), Chrissy Arroja (Kevin Arroja), Diane Bernardo (Peter Bernardo),Gilbert Medeiros Jr, Megan Medeiros, Alicia Medeiros (James Reynolds), and Sarah Medeiros. Her family legacy continues with 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild,  Madison Pillsbury, John Pillsbury, Morgan Pacheco, Mason Pacheco, Cody Carreiro (Velissa Velazco), Taylor Carreiro (Alysha Carreiro and baby Scarlette), Mackenzie Carreiro, Brady Carreiro, Alexis Pacheco, Nicholas Arroja, Victoria Arroja, Sylas Bernardo, and Dawson Bernardo. She was the sister of Edmundo Rego and his wife, Maria. She is further survived by several loving nieces, nephews, cousins, step-grandchildren and friends. She was also the mother of the late Victoria Oliveira (late John Oliveira) and the sister of the late Luis do Rego, Herman Rego, Mecias Rego and Victoria DoRego.

Maria leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, kindness and a lifetime of delicious recipes. She will be dearly missed by her family. They will remember her light and her laughter for many years to come. Until we meet again Vavó. Te amo.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, July 29th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the United Nation's World Food Program, P.O.
