Maria D.
Camara
d. Nov 28, 2024
Maria D. Camara, 69, of Fall River, wife of Jose Camara, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 28, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Mosteiros, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Luis Bettencourt and the late Idalina (Miguel) Bettencourt.
Prior to her retirement she was a sewing machine operator in the local textile industry for many years. She enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners for her family, trips to the thrift store, and her trip back to her homeland in the Azores. Most notably, Maria was the "Matriarch" of the family and loved spending quality time with all of them.
Besides her loving husband of forty-nine years, she leaves her children, Judith Lingley and her husband, Seth, of Westport, Jeffrey Camara and his wife, Amanda, of Swansea, and Diana Camara and her long-time companion, Matthew Bisbano, of Swansea; her four grandchildren, Brittany Anne Melo (husband, Adrian), Tayla Rodrigues (husband, Trent), Isabella Camara, and Jacob Camara; one great-grandchild, Wren Carolyn Rodrigues; her siblings, Maria Jose Medeiros, Maria Teresa Camara, both of the Azores, Manuel Bettencourt of Fall River, and Jose Bettencourt of the Azores; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Maria Conceicao Botelho.
The Camara family would like to thank Southcoast Visiting Nurse Association for their kindness and exceptional care they provided during Maria's illness and her final days.
Her funeral arrangements were private. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Maria's memory to: Glioblastoma Foundation, P.O. Box 62066, Durham, MA 27715.
Family members are always grateful for relatives and friends wishing to make in-person expressions of kindness and support. Being unable to have done so at this time, all are urged to express sympathy online or by mail. To ensure that said condolences and/or sympathy cards reach the family, please always make sure that submissions online are made directly through the funeral home's website (www.silvafaria.com) and not through a third party. Thank you!
