Obituary

Maria Ines Carreiro, 91, of Fall River, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. Born in Nordeste Pedreira, St. Michael, Azores, she was the oldest daughter of the late Francisco P. Carreiro and the late Teresa (de Melo) Carreiro.

For many years, Ines worked in the local textile industry as a lining setter on outerwear. Although a difficult job, she was known to be exceptionally quick and talented at it. After retirement she became an elementary school lunch lady. She would tell stories about the children and really enjoyed making sure they were fed well. In her spare time Ines particularly loved tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, crocheting doilies and tablecloths, and talking on the phone to keep in touch with family and her many friends. She baked and gifted her delicious Portuguese sweetbread at Easter and Christmas and her biscoitos were sought after throughout the year. In her younger days, Ines enjoyed an Alaskan cruise and traveled to such places as Jerusalem, Lisbon, and back to her homeland to visit her cousins, Gervasia, Estella, Paulina and Miguel. Most importantly, Ines loved spending quality time on a regular basis with family, especially her nieces and nephews whom she doted on. A devout Catholic, she was a longtime parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church and a member of the Ladies Auxillary.

Ines will be missed immeasurably by her loving sister and caregiver, Rita Silva and her husband, Liberal, of Fall River. Her absence has greatly saddened those she leaves behind; her niece and godchild, Pauline Silva and nephews, Daniel Silva (Marina) and Michael Silva (Sarah); grand nieces and nephews, Jamey Campellone (Cassandra), Chelsea Campellone, Kyle Silva (Brianna), Jessica Silva, Nicholas Silva, Jacob Silva, and Abigail Silva.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, January 3rd, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
