Maria T. Castro, 82, of Somerset, widow of Jose O. Castro, passed away at home on Thursday, January 21, 2021. Born in Feteiras do Sul, St. Michael, Azores, a daughter of the late Jacinto Tavares and the late Maria (Costa) Tavares, she emigrated to Fall River in 1954 and moved to Somerset in 1960.

She had worked in the textile industry for many years, at Converse Sneaker in Bristol and at Santoro Mfg in Fall River. A devout Catholic, Maria was an active parishioner at St. John of God Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by: a son, Joseph O. Castro (fiancée Kim Kornegay) of Somerset; three siblings, Dolores Almeida of Fort Myers, FLA, Cam Cunha of Somerset, and Louis Tavares of Somerset; a grandson, Eric Castro (wife Jennifer); a great granddaughter, Kate; and many nieces and nephews. Her brothers, Joe Tavares and Manuel Tavares, predeceased her.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, January 26th, in St. John of God Church followed by her private committal at St. Patrick's Cemetery both in Somerset. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Maria's memory to St. John of God Church, 996 Brayton Ave, Somerset, MA 02726.
