Obituary

Maria Catarina Ferreira, 91, of Bristol, RI, widow of Fernando B. Ferreira, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at Silver Creek Manor after a long illness. Born in Lomba do Carro, Povoacao, St Michael, Azores, daughter of the late Julio Carreiro and the late Maria (Raposo) Carreiro, she emigrated to Fall River in 1960.

She worked in the local garment industry for many years, at the former Kim & Jim Sportswear and the former Terry Dee, and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union ("ILGWU") now called UNITE. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and crocheting, but especially loved spending time and keeping in contact with her family.

She is survived by: three children, Jose Ferreira (wife Helena) of Fall River, Veneranda Miozza (husband Richard) of Fall River, and John Ferreira (wife Urania) of Tiverton; a sister, Giselda da Mota of East Providence; five grandchildren, Christopher Ferreira, Lisa Gormley, Jeffrey Miozza, Sandra Ayotte, and Michael Ferreira; 2 great grandsons, Joshua and Trevor; several nieces and nephews. She was also a sister of the late Joseph Carreiro.

Due to the family's concerns with the covid pandemic, a private funeral was held on Monday, October 19th, with Her Funeral Mass being celebrated in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.

Family members are always grateful for relatives and friends wishing to make in-person expressions of kindness and support. Being unable to do so, because of this pandemic, all are urged to express sympathy online or by mail. To ensure that said condolences and/or sympathy cards reach the family, please always make sure that submissions online are made directly through the funeral home's website ( www.silvafaria.com ) and not through a third party. Thank you!
