Maria L. Chicharro, 90, of Fall River, widow of Artur Chicharro, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at home, surrounded by her loving family, after a long illness. Born in Agua Retorta, St. Michael, Azores, daughter of the late Joao Aguiar and the late Adelaide (Resendes) Aguiar, she emigrated to Fall River in 1966.
She was employed as a seamstress in the local textile industry for many years, working at Tioga and Well Heart Mfg, retiring in 1995. An active parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church, she was also a member of its Holy Rosary Society.
She is survived by: three children, Yvonne Cordeiro (husband Joe), John Chicharro (wife Susan Thiboutot), and Duarte Chicharro all of Fall River; six grandchildren, Lesley, Amanda, Andrew, Sarah, Jerel, and Alexandra; four great grandchildren, Karma, Ahrianna, Kylie, and Arthur; many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Maria Carreiro, Isaura Sardinha, Manuel Aguiar, Joao Aguiar, Denis Aguiar, Jose Aguiar, and Duarte Aguiar.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, December 30th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Maria's memory to the Veterans Association of Bristol County, 755 Pine St, Fall River, MA 02720.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Luisa Silva, Idalina Martins, Lidia Sardinha, Palmira Branco, Elvira Sardinha, Olivia Carreiro, and Maria do Ceu Lopes for all their help caring for Maria in so many ways. Thank you also to the wonderful nurses and aides at Kindred Hospice, to Cristina de Sousa and Kim Luz.
