Maria D. Barbosa, 80, of Fall River, widow of Gilbert C. Barbosa, died Sunday 1/2/11 at home after a long illness. Born in Agua de Pau, Lagoa, St. Michael, Azores, daughter of the late Luis & Maria (Rebelo) Vieira, she emigrated to Fall River in 1974. Mother of Edie Cabral (husband-the late Flo), Sandy Torres (husband-Mario), Gilberto da Silva (wife-Maria), Amanda Ferreira (husband-Manuel), Maria, Luis & Bernadette Barbosa, and Maria Santos. Sister of Cecilia Sousa, Lurdes Feliciano, Amanda Costa, Eduarda Medeiros, and the late Sofia Gouveia. 27 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. On Thursday, January 6th, family and friends gathered for a Funeral mass celebrating Maria's life in Sts. Peter and Paul Parish at Holy Cross Church. Following the ceremony, pallbearers Lenny Da Silva, Marc Cabral, Derrick Da Silva, Scottie Ferreira, Steven Silva, Ronnie Santos, Andrew Aguiar and James Barbosa brought Maria to her final resting place at Notre Dame Cemetery.
