Obituary

Maria Raposo DaPonte, 87, of Fall River, widow of Jose M. DaPonte, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, February 5, 2026, in the comfort of her daughter's North Dartmouth home, surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Rabo de Peixo, São Miguel, Açores, a daughter of the late Mariano T. Raposo and the late Silvina (Amaral) Raposo, she later emigrated to Fall River in 1971.

Maria was employed for many years in the local textile industry, retiring from Shelburne Shirt in 1997.  She was a member of the Amigos de Rabo de Peixe.  As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was deeply committed to her family and home.  Her love was felt in everything she did and radiated through her warm smile and joyful laugh.  A perfect day for Maria would be quality time spent with her grandchildren.

She is survived by: three children, Joseph Ponte (wife Margarida) of Fall River, Maria F. Fontes (late husband Eugenio) of North Dartmouth, and Nelia Moniz (husband Edmund) of Fall River; two siblings, Elvira Raposo of Bridgewater and Eduarda Barbosa (husband Mario) of Fall River; seven grandchildren, Naomi Tavares, Bianca Fontes, Megan Fontes, Nicole Ponte, Mathaya Sanchez, Torreya Moniz, and Rihanna Ponte; four great-grandchildren, Owen Fontes, Autumn Aguiar, Isabel Tavares, and Gabriella Sanchez; and many nieces and nephews.  Maria was predeceased by two siblings, Silvina Estrela (husband Manuel of Fall River) and Mariano Raposo (wife Guiomar of Tewksbury).
