Maria G. DaSilva, 75, of Fall River, wife of Dennis DaSilva, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at home after a short illness. Born in Rabo de Peixe, Sao Miguel, Azores, a daughter of the late Manuel J, Penacho and Erminia G. (Narciso) Penacho, she emigrated to Fall River in 1966.

She worked in the local garment industry for 42 years, retiring from the former Shelburne Shirt in 2007, and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union ("I.L.G.W.U.," now called UNITE). She liked to go shopping and enjoyed leisurely rides to Cape Cod.

Besides her husband, of 52 years, Maria is survived by: two sons, Dennis Silva (wife Andrea) of Fall River and David Silva (wife Tanya) of Dighton; four sisters, Adriana Faria, Maria Jose Penacho, Eduarda Oliveira & Dora Carvalho all of Fall River; three grandchildren, Gabriella Silva, Ian Silva, and Malana Silva; and several nieces & nephews.

Due to the COVID pandemic, a private funeral was held on Saturday, April 18th, from our Fall River Chapel followed by her committal and entombment at the Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum.

When the current crisis allows, her family is planning to celebrate her life with a Memorial Funeral Mass at Espirito Santo Church, which will be announced here.
