Obituary

Maria Segunda De Gouveia, 93, of 78 Hancock Street, formerly of Williams Street in Fall River, passed away on January 17, 2008, at St. Anne's Hospital, following an extended illness. She was the widow of Manuel Nunes Pereira. Born on the island of Madeira, she was the daughter of the late Antonio De Gouveia and the late Antonia (Candida) De Gouveia. A resident of Fall River since 1966, she was a communicant of Espirito Santo Church. Surviving family members include her four sons, Manuel De Gouveia of Madeira, Joao Nunes Pereira and Antonio Pereira, both of Fall River, Jose Nunes of North Dartmouth, MA, six daughters, Lina De Gouveia of Madeira, Bernadette Correia of Somerset, MA, Teresa Pereira of Fall River, Angelina Gouveia of Madeira, Margarida Menezes of Westport, MA, and Leonarda Raposo of Fall River, twenty eight grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson, a nephew and two nieces local, and three nieces in Portugal. She was also the mother of the late Angela Pereira, Almerinda Pereira and Maria Pestana, and the grandmother of the late Manuel Pestana. Her funeral Mass was celebrated by Rev. James Ferry at Espirito Santo Church. Committal services were held at Notre Dame Cemetery. Pallbearers were Paul Gouveia, Paul Meneses, Anthony Correira, Eric Nunes, Andrew Raposa and Samuel Pereira.
