Maria Jose De Oliveira Aguiar, age 86, of Somerset, Massachusetts, passed away at home on Monday, October 4, 2010. She was the widow of Jose De Oliveira.
Born in the village of Santo Antonio, on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores, she was a daughter of the late Antonio Viveiros and the late Maria Dos Anjos Viveiros. After residing in the Azores for fifty-one years she moved to Fall River in 1975, settling in Somerset six months later. A resident of Somerset since 1975, she was a parishioner of St. John of God Church on Brayton Avenue in Somerset. Although Maria spent most of her life keeping her home and raising the family, she was employed for ten years as a seamstress at the former Beacon Garment Company on Anawan Street in Fall River. Surviving family members include three sons; Arthur Aguiar of Somerset, John Aguiar of Swansea, MA, and Henry Aguiar of Somerset, six daughters; Odilia Amaral of Somerset, Maria Dos Anjos Valido of Westport, MA, Natalia Medeiros of Raynham, MA, Lucilia Rocha, Belmira Ferro, and Anna Sebastiao, all of Somerset, twenty-five grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Jose De Oliveira and Antonio Aguiar, and sister of the late Jose & Antonio Viveiros, Belmira Borges, Adelina Ferreira, Teresa Couto, and Berta & Conceicao Viveiros. Her funeral Mass was celebrated in St. John of God Church. She was laid to rest at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Fall River.
