Maria Fatima DeSousa, 72, of Fall River, wife of Antonio A. DeSousa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Hope Health in Providence after a long illness. Born in Bretanha, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Joao Carvalho and the late Angelina (Miranda) Carvalho.

Prior to her retirement she worked most of her working life in the yarn industry at Quaker Fabrics and then later at Cardinal Medeiros Residence as a home assistant.

An exceptional seamstress, she also loved baking and cooking for family gatherings, spending time with her family, making sure everybody was happy, and trips to Cape Cod. Maria was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who very much enjoyed spending quality time with all her family.

Besides her husband of  fifty-one years years, she leaves: her three sons, William DeSousa and his wife, Bridget, of East Taunton, Tony DeSousa and his wife, Lisa, of Westport, and Kevin DeSousa and his wife, Karen, also of Westport; her seven grandchildren, Jocelyn, Lucas, Noah, Ethan, Kaitlyn, Caleb, and Vivian DeSousa; her two sisters, Maria dos Anjos DeMedeiros and her husband, Silvestre, of Fall River, and Angelina Pacheco and her husband, Jose, of Ontario, Canada; one brother, Joao Carvalho and his wife, Odelia, of Fall River; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Manuel Natal Carvalho.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, April 30th, in Holy Trinity Parish Church followed by her committal and entombment in the Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to: Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, which is linked here:
