Fall River

Obituary

Maria Eulalia Silva, 92, of Fall River, widow of Jose M. Silva, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Carvalho Grove Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in St. Michael, Azores, daughter of the late Joao Amaral and the late Francelina (Costa) Amaral, she emigrated to Fall River in 1980.

Prior to her retirement in 1992, she was a seamstress in the local textile industry for many years, employed at the former Whaling Manufacturing. She loved sewing and crocheting, as well as reading her bible, and she was a great cook. She enjoyed helping to raise some of her grandchildren and loved spending time with her family.

Her survivors include: eight children, Susana Cabral (husband Laureno) of Swansea, Lubelia Averill (husband Warren) of Terceira, Azores, Eulalia Soares (husband Manuel) of Canada, Manuela Resendes (husband Jose M.) of Terceira, Azores, Filomena Alvarez (husband Carlos) of Guadalajara, Mexico, Lucia Goncalves (husband Carlos) of Terceira, Azores, Joao Silva (wife Cathleen Sonia) of Fall River, and Helder Silva of Terceira, Azores; 21 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also a sister of the late Manuel Amaral, Auxilidora Amaral, Joao Jose Amaral, and Eduarda Ramsey.

Due to the COVID pandemic, Maria was laid to rest on Saturday, June 13th, with a private committal service at Notre Dame Cemetery.

When the current crisis has abated enough for large gatherings to again take place, Maria's family is planning to arrange for the offering of a Memorial Funeral Mass at Espirito Santo Church, to which extended family, friends and the public will be invited – and details will be announced here.

Family members are always grateful for relatives and friends wishing to share in-person kindness and support. But because of the pandemic, we are all urged to express sympathy online or by mail.

To ensure that said condolences reach the family, please always make sure that submissions online are made directly through the funeral home's website ( www.silvafaria.com ) and not through a third party. Thank you!

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Maria's memory to:

Alzheimer's Association MA/NH Chapter, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd, Waltham, MA 02452
