Maria Isabel Martins, 86, of Fall River, widow of Jose Martins, passed away peacefully on Friday after a short illness. Born in St. Michael, Azores, daughter of the late Jose DaMaso-DeSousa and Evangelina DeSousa. Maria had a passion for sewing and crocheting and she showed her artistic side through her wonderful drawings. She also enjoyed shopping and her daily walks. Beloved mother of Maria Filomena Fernandes of New Milford, CT, Eduardo Martins of New Bedford, Joseph Martins (wife-Carmen) of Fall River, Carlos Martins (wife-Margaret) of Somerset and the late Steven Martins; grandmother of Jeff Almeida, Jennifer Machado, Crystal Gendreau, Jonathan, Timothy, Joey, Christopher, Jason, and Alexander Martins; sister of Alberto DeSousa of Fall River, Anibal DeSousa of Dartmouth and the late Raul, Manuel, and Francisco DeSousa. She also leaves nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, June 7th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
