Obituary

Maria Isabel Medeiros, 80, of Fall River, wife of Emanuel J. Medeiros, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 9, 2023 in the comforts of her home following a long illness. Born in Fenais da Ajuda, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Manuel Freitas and the late Maria (DaPonte Almeida) Freitas.

Prior to her retirement she was a sewing machine operator in the local textile industry for many years. An excellent seamstress, she also loved cooking and baking, especially her sweetbread and malassadas. Maria enjoyed traveling back to her homeland in the Azores and, most importantly, spending quality time with all of her family.

Besides her husband of fifty-four years, she leaves her loving children, Cristina Raposo (late husband, Tony), Elsa Andrade and her husband, Robert, Paula Cormier and her husband, Brian, all of Fall River, Carmen Melo and her husband, Diamantino, of Westport, Emanuel A. Medeiros and his wife, Bethany, of Swansea, and Sandra Medeiros and her long-time companion, Timothy Rosa, of Fall River; her eleven grandchildren, Nicholas Raposo. Patrick Raposo, Roberto Andrade, Sadia Melo, Sydney Melo, Bianca Cormier, Olivia Cormier, Alexus Borges, Cloey Medeiros, Aeva  Medeiros, and Christian Medeiros; her three sisters, Maria Das Neves Soares and her husband, Tiago, of Canada, Liduina Cunha and her husband, Jose, and Madalena Macedo and her husband, Emanuel, both of Fall River; her three brothers, Manuel Freitas and his wife, Grace, Joaoquim Freitas and his wife, Maria Leonor, both of Connecticut, and Jacinto Freitas (late wife, Maria) of Seekonk; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Natalia DaSilva.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, February 14th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
