Maria J. Resendes, 71, of Fall River, wife of Ernesto Resendes, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 25, 2019 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Agua Retorta, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Francisco and Maria (Sousa) Marques. Prior to her illness, she was a seamstress in the local textile industry. She enjoyed cooking, baking, singing, and simply being at home. Most importantly, Maria loved being together with her family, especially her precious grandchildren. Besides her husband of forty-seven years, she leaves: her two sons, Carlos Resendes and his wife, Julie, of Swansea, and Ernest Resendes and his former wife, Kristine, of Fall River ; five grandchildren, Lauren Rose Resendes, Sydney Grace Resendes, Benjamin Alan Resendes, Nora Faith Resendes, and Grace Frances Resendes; three sisters, Margaret Costa and her husband, Manuel, Marylou Furtado and her husband, Manuel, and Nancy Marques, all of Fall River; one brother, Louis Marques and his wife , Carmen, of Fall River; her sister-in-law, Fatima Marques, of Fall River, and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Manuel Marques and Gilbert Marques. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, March 29th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
