Maria Jose Almeida, 100, of Dartmouth, wife of the late Manuel P. Almeida, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, July 13, 2019. Born in Furnas, St. Michael, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Maria Jose (Costa) Lima.  She worked as a machine operator in the local textile industry for many years prior to her retirement. She loved cooking, baking, crocheting, fishing, and her trips to the casino. Very strong-willed and family-oriented, Maria also was a devout Catholic, praying her rosary daily. But what was most important to her was spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter, Ashley. She leaves: her children, Maria C. Pacheco and her husband, Antonio, of Westport, Late Manuel Almeida and his wife, Armanda, of Fall River, Mariana Melo and her husband, Leonel, of Dartmouth, Maria J. Pereira (late husband, Jorge) of Spring Hill, Florida, Maria E.S. Nunes and her husband, Antonio, of Westport, and Jose Almeida and his wife, Guida, of Fall River; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Manuel Lima and Joseph Lima. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, July 17th, in Espírito Santo Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
