Maria Leonilde Moniz, age 99, passed away in Fall River on Sunday, October 11, 2015, following an extended illness. She was the widow of José Moniz. Born in Ponta Delgada, on the island of St. Michael in the Azores, she was a daughter of the late Antonio and Leocadia Soares. A resident of Fall River since 1971, she was employed in the garment trade for several years. Maria was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church and of the former Our Lady of Health Church. Surviving family members include her four children; Milton Moniz and José Eduardo Moniz, both of Lisbon, Portugal, Coralia M. Aguiar of Somerset, and Ligia Medeiros of Fall River. She also leaves a sister, Eduarda Rezendes of St. Michael, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, October 14th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
