Maria Jose (Melo Peixoto) Lima, 97, of Westport, widow of Guilherme Lima, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Tiverton, RI, on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, after a long illness. Born in St. Michael, Azores, a daughter of the late Antonio M. Peixoto and the late Rosa Emelia Jesus, she emigrated to Fall River in 1970.

She had worked in the local garment industry, retiring from the former Shelburne Shirt after about 15 years. Maria loved sewing, knitting & crocheting, and taking care of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren.

She is survived by: six children, Lucy Braga (late husband Albano) and Fatima Furna (late husband Antonio) both of Westport, Gilda Eiries (late husband Emilio) of Florida, Normania Cordeiro (husband Jose) of Tiverton, RI, Madalena Sequeira (husband John) of Lisbon, Portugal, and Goretti Amaral (husband Peter) of New Hampshire; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; seven great, great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Maria was predeceased by all her siblings, Antonio Peixoto, Zulmira Peixoto, Joao Peixoto, Jose Anibal Peixoto, and Conceicao Peixoto.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, July 7th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
